Toyota has once again come under the scrutiny of U.S. regulatory authorities, this time being forced to recall 33,848 Toyota and Lexus vehicles across 23 models sold in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. The issue involves incorrect load capacity stickers on the vehicles, which failed to account for the reduction in load capacity due to the installation of additional dealer-installed equipment. The recall affects vehicles that were outfitted with these accessories over the past two years.
This recall is part of a larger series of issues Toyota has faced recently, including a separate recall for 100,000 Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX600 pickups due to engine problems related to excessive wear on the piston rings. The ongoing challenges highlight the complexities automakers face in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, especially when additional equipment is installed post-production.
The affected vehicles will have their information stickers replaced to reflect accurate load capacities, ensuring that owners have the correct information regarding their vehicle’s performance and safety limits.
