ニューヨークでは、トヨタ自動車を含む日本の自動車メーカー6社が、第1四半期の米国での新車販売台数が前年同期比15％増の約143万台に達したと発表した。この急増は、電気自動車の販売台数が減少する中、ハイブリッド車の需要が高いことに起因している。トヨタだけでも約56万5,000台を販売し、前年比20%増を記録した。特筆すべきは、電気自動車とハイブリッド車を含む電動化車両の販売台数が、前年同期比70%増の206,850台と過去最高水準に達したことである。また、1-3月の総販売台数に占める電動化車両の割合は、25.3%から36.6%に上昇し、昨年を大きく上回った。一方、GMの3ヵ月間の販売台数は594,233台で、一部の電気自動車販売とレンタル部門の減少により、前年比1.5%減となった。
