In New York, six Japanese car manufacturers, including Toyota Motor, reported a 15% year-over-year sales growth of new vehicles in the US, reaching around 1.43 million units in the first quarter. This surge is attributed to the high demand for hybrid cars amidst declining electric vehicle sales. Toyota alone sold approximately 565,000 units, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. Notably, sales of electrified vehicles, including electric and hybrid cars, reached a record level of 206,850 units, a 70% increase from the same period last year. The share of electrified vehicles in total sales for January-March significantly exceeded last year’s figures, rising to 36.6% from 25.3%. In contrast, GM’s sales for the three months totaled 594,233 vehicles, a 1.5% decrease from the previous year, driven by a decline in some electric vehicle sales and the rental sector.
